When I was pregnant with my son I got very bad piles. They didnt go after I had him and just got worse. I went to the doctors a litte while ago and he said basically (sorry about this) that my bumhole is stretched and I'll need an operation. I can't get it done now till Ive had this second bump. Thye dont hurt but look gross. I was just wondering if anyone at all had , had an op like this? Because I need to know how much and how long it will hurt for! Thanks all. Sorry again for the TMI.

My Dad had this done. Not sure if there are different methods, but he had little rubber bands put on his and it killed them off.

There are lots of different surgical options and it's really down to the consultant and which method he prefers.  It can be a very painful and long recovery from having piles removed and the area is a very sensitive area to have operated on.  It depends on the degree of your piles to how they will be treated surgically.  If they aren't too bad they can be injected with a solution that shrinks them.  If they are extremely bad and stick out (prolapsed) then a heamroidectomy can be performed again there are several techniques to this procedure.  If a heamroidectomy is suggested I would talk it over thoroughly with the consultant first as there can be quite a long recovery period from this.
