I'm booked in for my first Counselling session on the 9th May.

It has taken me 6 months to pluck up enough courage to arrange and now I have I'm really nervous.  I do, however, think I need it as there are alot of issues bubbling under the surface and think counselling is the way forward.

Has anyone had any experience of counselling.  Happy to read your pms if you feel uncomfortable posting.

Zo xxx

I haven't had any experience of counselling, but just wanted to let you know how brave you are to be sorting it out! I know you've been really busy and it must've been easy and tempting to put this to the back of your mind and deal with it later! It must be really nerve-wrecking to be talking to a stranger about no doubt very personal things, but remember, they are professionals and have prob dealt with similar things before, and will hopefully get you back to your old self in no time!

Good luck hunny, we'll all be here for you!

Ive had counselling before and it really helps to unload to peeps who you dont know and who are trained to ditch it.  Plus you can let it all out without fear of hurting people you know's feelings and without wondering whether or not they are gonna tell them!!

Feels good to let it all out, go for it girlie, you will feel better for it xxxx

I had 3 years of PND counselling and it really did help. We talked about everything and anything and there were other women there too so it was good sharing experiences and realising I wasn't alone.

I wish you luck and good for you in going for it in the first place, xxx.

Hi Zoe.

I had my first councilling session about 4 weeks ago and have, for now been going once a week.

To start with they just generally ask why you think you need there help and a little background history just so they get to know you and before long, you'll proberbly find your telling them everything warts and all.

I've told my councellor more in these last few weeks than I have ever told anyone in my life. Though I must admit at first I found it hard to let it all out for fear of embarrasment to myself for letting myself get this way.  But I'm slowly starting to realise that I have a heck of a lot on my plate at the moment and you know what, I am damn proud for coping as well as I have even if I do need councelling to see me through it.

Its tough, I came out feeling exhausted and drained as I was suprised at exactly how much it takes to get it all out.

But I am at the moment feeling slightly better for it.

I've only been doing it a few weeks, so I'm still 'new' if you know what I mean. I have one to one councelling.

If you have taken the step forward for this, then good for you. I hope it gives you what you looking for out of it all.

Corrine x

Youll probably be on edge for a bit, but then you will relax and it will just all flow out.  You will find it easier talking to a complete stranger, as they dont know you and are not emotionally involved with you etc.  If you can talk all your issues through then good for you, either way you are still a banana head lol!  You are doing really really well, your life is back on track and im proud of you.

I saw a councillor for about 8 months when I had my 1st diagnosed episode of depression, and it was brilliant. At the time, there was no NHS option from our surgery so I paid to see someone, and it was the best money I ever spent.

It wasn't how I imagined as I thought it would be the stereotypical man/woman in glasses asking me to tell them my problems, but it wasn't at all. The lady I saw asked very subtle questions to get me to open up and things came to light from weeks, months and years ago.

I couldn't recommend it enough. I think you'll find it very beneficial Zoe, good luck!
