I told dh las week that I was feeling really low and feed-up but it fell on deaf ears, I told him that if it was to continue I wanted to go to the doctors.

He told me I wasn't depressed because people who were didn't know that they were depressed ?????

He told me that if I had to go on anti D's it would change me and he didn't want that. He asked me to wait until we were in the new house because it might just be stress related.

What willl I do ?

anti-ds dont change you.  They give your body a boost to get your seratonin levels back up...hence the nickname..'uppers'.  So they dont change you into anything more than your usual self.  It could be all stress related, as it just seems to be one thing after another for you at the moment.  But, if you are feeling low and fed up all the time, then you can more or less bet your bottom dollar that you are a bit depressed.  Give it a bit more time, see how you get on.  If you still feel the same then go see the doc.  There is no shame in going on the happy pills.  A survey done said that at least one in three women are on them.  We had this discussion on the school run one day...turns out that more or less everyone is on them.

Martha I have depression and I know the signs so I can get help when I see them coming - it does NOT mean I am not depressed and it is fantastic that you have noticed these signs and want to do something about it.

Anti d's dont change you in any way other than to make you less depressed! Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and all anti d's do is correct that so they help you to be the person you were before depression, not a different person.

It is possible that the move is realted to your depression but if you are feeling low now then dont wait to ask for help. You can always come off the anti d's at a later date when you feel better. I also think that this is something you have been struggling with on and off for a long time. From previous posts I would even suggest it may be unresolved PND. I hope you dont mind me saying that and dont think I am speaking out of turn, it is just a feeling I have.

Speak to your dh again and explain exactly how you feel. At the end of the day it is your decision, not him, if you get help but it does help if your dh supports you through it.

We'll be here for you babe, take care.

Not at all Madz, I want people to be honest... I have no one else to talk to...no one else to understand.

I want people to tell me if I need a kick up the bum or is it more serious.

Thanks so much for the advice and being open with me.

I am sorry if I am talking out of turn here but I think your husband is being a bit selfish about this.

If you feel you would benefit going to the doctors hun then you go - if it is depression and you let it carry on you'll end up feeling 100 times worse

I have no knowledge of the illness or the medication but from what has already been said it sounds as though the medication (if you get it) wont change you.  Who is to say if it is depression the illness wont change you anyway (for the worst)

Maybe your dh is just a bit scared of the word depression and doesn't want to think of his wife suffering from it - sit down with him again and let him know your feelings and offer for him to go along to the gp with you - that way he'll maybe feel a bit better about it all

Let us know what you decide to do

I really think you are a star for admitting that you have a problem and your hubby should be a bit more understanding. Andti-dees in my opinion, only change you for the better. I feel great just now and I've only been on mine for 3 weeks.
