Update....

Went to town (Leicester) on Saturday, tried Debenhams first - no Miriam Stoppard and about 4 dusty manky bras in a dark corner which was supposedly their maternity section!  Left quickly and headed to Mothercare.

A lovely lady measured me (37 E) - typical that I am between sizes!  Anyway tried on every style in the shop from 36E to 38FF and all fitted really badly.

The assistant said it could be as I have a small back but big cups!  But I didn't think I was particularly odd...  All the bras seemed to be baggy or ill fitting in two areas - the bit that sits next to your skin under you arm pits and the bit that should be sitting next to your breast plate.  In every case the bit at the front was either too far away from my skin or riding up revealling the breasts!

I must have been there over an hour and the changing room was freezing - they really need to get a heater in there!

The assitant was at a loss and said that in these cases she usually recommends sports bras or even sticking with the underwire so long as it is a soft version and to go for a bigger cup size so that the wirie does not dig into the breast tissue.

Ok - Next day drove 30 miles to Nottingham with the plan to hit Debenhams and Bravissimo.  First stop Debenhams - Yey they had a good selection including Miriam Stoppard and Freya (my usual preference).  Grabbed a selection of styles/sizes and also some sports bras and off to the changing room.

The assitant here was less helpful, about 12 years old and counting down the minutes until her lunch break!  Also trying to see to 3 customers at once didn't help.  anyway I have the same old problems and she was at a loss as to what to suggest and just kept bringing me larger and larger bras!  I think the final straw was the H cup which made me look like Madonna with in her coned bra phase! lol.LOL

She went to lunch, I left quietly...Got outside and much to my embarrassment and DP's confusion burst into tears!!  So there I am in the high street, blubbing and mumbling about being doomed to boobs round my ankles as I can't find any bra to fit!  I was soooooo emabarrassed and this is so not me (the crying thing!), DP was also thrown and of course much as he tried could not say anything to help! LOLEmbarrased

Anyway, cup of tea and cookie later and I just went home.  Couldn't face Bravissimo as I was too scared I would blub again!

What a waste of a weekend, and I STILL have the problem I started with....

Any more ideas?

Do you have a small lingerie shop near you? ie not a big brand shop. In my local town there is a bra shop run by a lovely lady who finds me perfect bras and ordered me in some maternity bras. See if you can find a smaller business as they do tend to be more helpful! Hth

If you go onto the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) website, you should be able to find out if there's one of their bra fitters in your area. They come to your house, and the have an ok selcetion of nursing and maternity bras. Might be less upsetting being in your own home. Sorry you had such a rubbish time at the shops!

Gosh, I am sorry you had such a hard time. I can't believe that girl was sooooo rude. There is surely some shops on line, now that you have been measured.

I went into Mothercare today and the one I got fitted ok. They're not exactly cheap but they definitely give a lot more support and definitely more comfy than underwire which I normally wear. In saying that, because they're adjustable they'll last longer than a normal bra even when you start going up sizes. To be honest I measured myself before I went so didn't need an assistant. Sometimes they just cause you more hassle than it's worth.

Hi - Good news finally found a bra for me!  A colleague recommended this website: http://www.fromheretomaternity.co.uk/

They are a very small company - used to be a boutique in Oxford but now online only, 2 ladies.  Wrote to them and the trained bra fitter wrote back with a lovely personal e-mail and recommended their underwired maternity bra made by Anita.  Wasn't cheap (£32) but frankly, after all the wasted time and effort looking I am just grateful!  They also offer a phone fitting service so once you are in receipt of the bra you can speak to the fitter and they will identify any problems and recommend accordingly.

Even better, I haven't had to move away from the underwire!

Thanks for all the recommendations.

Love from  very comfortable Helen xx
