Hi, hope someone can help me! I'm been on the coil since August, had my last period December and now think I'm pregnant! I've a 7 year old so have recognised the symptoms before but am scared stiff that I'm pregnant whilst using the coil. My bust has grown a cup size in a week and tingle and itch, I've overwhelming tiredness and today I've an upset tummy. I'm due on any day so will know soon enough I know. Can anyone advise? Also, if I am I'm scared stiff of miscarrying this with a coil in place, if I am does anyone know what my chances of miscarriage are (I think they'd be high) also what would happen do they take the coil out? Excuse my ignorance, I just can't find the info....as I've said, I've a child, I know the symptom but didn't expect this to happen whilst using the coil so I'm still pretty shocked at the moment.......

Yes it's possible, I would suggest you contact your gp as soon as possible, and if you haven't done one already get a test done. As for the rest of your questions I'm not sure I could answer any of them I have never used the coil, so don't know what problems they could cause. I'm sure there will be someone on here that could tell you though!

Not sure which coil you have as there are several different types now. If you are pregnant they will remove the coil if the coil is in place then you have a higher risk of miscarriage. You need to see the dr as soon as possible to confirm one way or the other, there is a higher chance of ectopic pregnancy if you have a coil in place so you need to have this ruled out. If it is the Mirena coil you have then there are no statistics yet on how many people miscarry or give birth as it is a relatively new coil.

I know MumSam has already asked, but is it a Mirena Coil? I had one
for over 2 years (just got it out in July) and remember that I had
pregnancy like symptoms for a few months until it settled dow and
then didn't get any periods at all for about 18 months or so. The doc
told me it was the hormones in the coil settling down. If it isn't Mirena
coil and a copper one I don't have personal experience, but a girl I
used to work withs best friend fell pregnant with one in. They actually
didn't remove it as she was too far on when she found out and they
didn't want to disturb anything. Her coil came out at the start of
labour and she had a healthy girl - I know she was monitored
closely.
I think your first step is to take a pregnancy test. It will let you know
one way or the other. You could be giving yourself unnecessary

Thank you all for your comments, I have a metal coil not the mirena one as didn't want one with hormones in. Yes, I'm a born worrier so I'll get an appointment at the docs this week. I'll update this so you all know. I won't be upset if I am as long as the baby will be okay ;o) ;o)

Hi hun,
One of my close friends had the metal one and she fell pregnant while using it. They didn't remove it and there are actually scan pictures that look as if the baby is holding it. They scanned her frequently and we had a game of 'trace the coil' - lol! I know it's not really that funny, especially as it's a really worrying time for you hun but yes, it can definitely happen and as little Gwyllum proves, a health and happy baby can be the end result..
The most important thing though hun is to get yourself checked out. I don;t know what the miscarriage rates are with this but I really wouldn't worry about it. If you are pregnant, I'm sure your doc/gynae will go through it all with you. to be honest, my friend had said that pregnancy was her best/easiest and as she's had 7 in total - she would know! as you know, everyones different hun and you need to get medical advice as soon as possible.

Failure rate of the copper coil is 0.3-4 women in every 100. The copper coil works by releasing copper into the womb this is very toxic to both the egg and the sperm normally killing both the coil does not stop you ovulating. If the sperm and egg are not destroyed and fertilisation occurs then usually the embryo will not implant as the copper again is toxic and prevents the egg embedding properly or developing. Becoming pregnant with a coil in place puts you at a much higher risk of miscarriage and ectopic so you do need to see your doctor if you think you are pregnant or have missed a period. Most coils last 5 years before you have to have them replaced.

Hi everyone, good news - my monthly arrived today! Thank you all for your advice, help and support. Can't quite figure out why my boobs have grown but I'm not complaining about that.

Hiya, my sister in law got pg when she had her coil fitted, and the baby came out holding it!!! He was fine, and didnt suffer any problems, but I would go to docs to get it checked out.
