I have suffered from Anxiety and Depression for my whole adult life. I have had panic attacks and been refered to the local mental health team. I was having my medicines increased when I discovered I was pregnant - I was taken off them in 2 days (very fast for the dose I was on) and was monitored thoughout my pregnancy but I never faltered - now I'm not sure if the pregnancy cured it - I think a bit part of it was my own thinking and determination.

I have had a couple of small blips since having Eds but have never gone back to the bad days of pre pregnancy.

Hun i think alot of it has to do with the sudden realisation you have a life growning inside of you so you somehow have an increased confidence.... inner confidence even.

I have never been very positive or confident but during pg it was the only time i managed to say what i felt and fudge to the consequences.... might be worth doing or seeing someone about confindence classes to help after her babies born.

I think its one of those things thats entirely down to the individual. For me, I have a history of anxiety and depression going back to about age 16. I was 32 when I fell pregnant with Ella and hadn't had any treatment for anxiety or depression for 4 years, but developed antenatal depression during my pregnancy and as part of that, had panic attacks. This then led on to post natal depression and the panic attacks got worse. Like your friend, I had days when I couldn't leave the house.

This time, I was 35 when I fell pregnant, 36 now and had been off the meds for 9 months before falling pregnant. I have ante natal depression again but so far, no panic attacks. I did have 2 panic attacks last year between my miscarriage and falling pregnant again this time.

Anxiety/depression/panic can be affected and/or triggered by hormones so its highly possible that the pregnancy hormones work in your friend's favour and keep her panic attacks at bay.

Other illnesses and conditions can be affected by pregnancy too, for example I'm asthmatic and during pregnancy, my asthma improves remarkably! I'm on less than half the meds/dosage I was on pre-pregnancy, which is splendid!

Funny thing the human body.....

yes Madz she has been on meds just seems very odd that when she finds out she is pg that minute she turns 'normal' again then the minute baby pops out her panic attacks return . Im not being cruel but she is a complete hypercondriac (sp?) and i mean complete .
