Hi hun

I don't know of any certain product that will work, i useded coco butter thoughout my pregnancy and i still got them .

Best bet is to pick creams which contain vitamin E or vitamin A.... Start early with the application and the rest is down to chance as far as i know.

Good luck hun x

There really isn't a lot you can do to avoid stretch marks if you are going to get them.  Your get stretch marks as the tissue tears under the skin (it doesn't hurt) some people don't get them others get them regardless of wether they have a baby or not.  If you are younger your skin is more suple so you are less likely to get stretch marks.  Drink plenty to keep your skin hydrated and the tissue healthy, creams can help on the outside to keep the skin more elastic but it won't stop them totally.

When I was pregnant I was told to use mandarin oil. It seemed to work until about 37 weeks when I got a tiny stretch mark, then a few more followed in the last 3 weeks. None were bad though and they faded quickly.

There are quite a few products on the market now for preventing and minimising stretch marks.
A few of my friends have used 'Derma Mum' stretch mark oil and say its pretty good.. and also Bio Oil has been recommended too.
I think i used one from Avent when i was pg, but it wasn't much good to be honest!
Keeping your skin hydrated and moisturised is probably the best advice i could give you.

I used a cream that came highly recommended by a friend, while I was pg with my first, 14 years ago.  I ended up with stretch marks covering the whole of my tum - top to bottom and side to side (no exaggeration!! lol) I had no space left to get more with my second - although when I was in labour I looked down at my bump and a new one had appeared in the small space where there was none! hehe!

I got no new ones with No.3, and now pg with No.4 I still rub cream in every night, but it's just to stop my skin getting itchy!

I think it can be hereditary - my nana, mum and sister all have the same. It's down to the type of skin you have quite often! I can honestly say I don't care about them though - I can't remember what it was like to have a smooth tum - and after each pregnancy they fade to silver again!

Good luck!

xxx

LOL Kim,
I was going to mention that my stomach resembles a London road map too.. but thought it would be best not to put her off!!!!
No, really, i dont care about them either, and after having 5 children, there's bound to be some evidence of it, and i look at them as fond memory of my pregnancies.

Hehe - mine usually looks like corrugated cardboard Amanda - all smooth again now tho, since it's pulled tight again! lol

I remember our family doctor coming out to the house after I had Rebecca and telling me I should be proud of them!

Bio oil is great, There is no guarantee that you will not get them but I got very very faint ones with my last pregnancy and I went 10 days over. plus I I had a huge bump....if nothing else it helped with the itching. palmers coco butter is good too....I used both.
