Although i am only 4 months, i am really starting to show so ive went and bought some maternity jeans and trousers which are the under the bump style.

My mother in law was going into Next and said she would get me some stuff if she seen anything so i told her about 300 times that i'm only going to wear under the bump stuff as i cant stand the trousers with the big band.

She has just phoned me to tell me that she has bought me loads of clothes ( and i do appreciate it ) but they are over the bump so ive said thanks but i dont want to wear over the bump stuff. She's taken the huff, my sister in law has phoned me to say that i will HAVE to wear over the bump trousers when i am further on.

So can you help me ? Can you still get away with under the bump clothes when you are further on ? I am normally a size 10 so im relatively thin.

It just feels like they are trying to bully me into wearing things that i dont want to.

*********sorry if i sound quite pathetic************

I think everyone has their own ideas about what's comfy and what's not. To be honest, I wish I had more over bump jeans and trousers now - I can't wear the under bump ones very well any more, as since Adam's head engaged weeks ago he's so low that they just fall straight down when I try and walk! They also dig in too much when I sit down.

It's hard to know early on how big your bump will eventually be - but at the end of the day it's your choice - you've got to wear them!

xxx

P.s. where's your bump photo then?

I never wore over the bump clothes.. i managed to get by all 3 of my pregnancies wearing normal clothes, just a couple sizes to bigger than my normal size. I bought loads of joggers and cargo's from chav land (sports world) which didn't cost a fortune.

its up to you what you wear.. don't be told what you have to wear.. if that happened to me, i would smile politly and then put them at the back of my wardrobe.. lol.

Hi hun

I had both..... with my first pregnancy i tended to wear extra large joggers etc. My mil at the time very kindly handed me a bag of maternity wear which she seriously wanted me to wear..... i took the bag and when i got home i burst into tears, it was all '80 maternity wear! Which i couldn't and didn't want to wear, my dh never said anything just there you go now you've something to wear!

Second time round i had over the bump clothes for work and under the bump jeans..... i found the cotton over the bump ones suprisingly comfy but jeans where lovely too.

I think it's personal preference but each pair feels different the bigger you are.

hugs hun it's not easy.... you could always just wear the odd item when they pop round if it keeps the peace and the rest of the time it's in the wash

I opted for over the bump stuff purely because under the bump stuff just kept falling down and I was constantly having to hold them up which is not ideal. Tbh I agree with the others. It's up to you what you wear but to avoid any arguments pretend to be ok with them and maybe wear them if you have to when they are around. Like the others have said, you may decide to wear them later on anyway so then there's no problem. I was lucky in that nobody tried to give me clothes so I just bought my own. I doubt my mil would even have known what size to buy for me if she was going to but she's not the type to offer to help out. She was the same with my first. Quite happy to sit with the baby on her lap and put it to sleep but never offered to lift a finger to help me out with housework etc. Trust me, this time will be different. She'll go by my rules or not at all. Plus I've got ds who's just about to start school after the holidays so he needs to be kept in his routine.

Anyway guys, im going to take your advice, accept them and wear them occasionally.

I am grateful to her but arrrrggghhhh, maybe its my hormones !!! xx

Sorry I agree with your inlaws (or outlaws)

I loved my over the bump jeans and skirts. You are correct they are not glamorous but they were sooooo comfortable and they actually fit your hips and groin. My under bump (trendy jeans) were a apain as they kept falling down and giving me workers bum!

Over bump clothes rule!

!
