Hi, I saw m/w yesterday, I have raised blood pressure, protein in urine, swollen feet and as I have seen "floating white/black spots", a blood sample was taken to check for PET. Blood was being taken anyway as I am now 36 weeks, but I have to call the Day assessment unit later on today. Has anyone else experianced this, and what does it mean if I have PET?

Hi. PET is a short name for pre-eclampsia toxaemia, which is pre-eclampsia. I too had raised blood pressure and a bit of protein in my urine from 33 weeks of pregnancy and so had the test for pre-clampsia.

Here is a link to NHS direct which tells you a bit about pre-eclampsia http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId= 431

Try to take it easy and see what the results show. If you do have pre-eclampsia, depending on the degree of it your mw may monitor you from home, start giving you medication or may want you to be observed at the hospital.

Good luck, and please do let us know how you get on.

have confirmed with the day assessment unit that all appears ok, but my iron levels are low (10.5)and that I sould ask my dr for a iron tablet prescription - is there anything I can eat more of to increase my iron level instead of resorting to tablets straight away??

Hi, good news that your bloods came back ok.  To increase your intake of iron naturally you could try drinking fresh orange juice as the vitamin C helps absorb the iron and also eat things like:  broccoli, brussel sprouts, dark chocolate, red meat like roast beef, baked beans, boiled eggs, sardines, spring greens and breakfast cereals that are fortified with iron.  Hope you feel better soon and good luck with the baby not long to go now.
