I am furious!

I have been on Oxycodone for the past month for my SPD - my SPD has got better because of the prolotherapy so I went about coming off the Oxycodone (Morphine).

Well I got down to 30/35mg a day (equivalent to 60/70mg Morphine) on prolonged release and hit a brick wall. Try to go lower and I get all sorts of horrid things. Involuntary leg movements, nervousness through to near full on panic attacks, restlessness, shakes, hot and cold spells, shivers - etc etc. As I'm sure you can guess, it isnt nice!

So off to the docs I trot - expecting to be put on a 2 week plan or something to come off them.

NOPE! It could take 6 months to a year!!! Noone told me this and I was too shocked to say anything to the doc except nod my head. He has given me liquid Oxycodone which isnt prolonged release so I can take less of it and when I feel like it.

I am determined it wont take me that long - however if my SPD flares up in 2/3months again I may need to go back on it - which will mean I will need to start again.

I am sort of in shock and am terrified to tell my DH as he'll be horrified. All I can say is I'm glad I got a pre payment prescription certificate!

oh noo madz that is a long time but if thats what they advise i wouldnt rush it,you dont want to have to deal with them side effects......xxx

I've made an appointment to see my GP (my normal one not the locum I saw today) in a couple of weeks to talk it all through with her and I can go armed with a list of questions then.

WOW ! That is an awfully long time. I'm sure DH will be understanding about it all and I hope that a flare up is months and months away, xx.

Goodness - that does sound a long time. Those side effects sound horrible too - what a shame. I hope your normal GP will be helpful in answering all your questions when you speak to them.

Glad to hear your pain is better tho, doll.

Awww hun it must be hard to hear that it will take that long to come off them.... i hoping that they will find away to help you come off them sooner than later and that if you have another flare up it's not so bad that you need to start over.

As for telling your dh, good luck and i hope he can be as supportive as you need him to be. Good luck in a couple of weeks time, i should be available to give you a lift if you need me.

I just love the way they're so willing to hand the stuff out but forget the key factors of when you need to come off it it will take xyz amount of time etc. Also it's funny how they never meantion the side effects lol!

Oh I know that wasn't the news you wanted to hear and hopefully your own doctor may be able to offer you some more advice.
