I am not impressed with my body at all!

I have been on the equivalent of over 100mg and up to around 200mg of morphine a day. I have cut out my day time dose but cannot get below the equivalent of 40mg of morphine (20mg of oxycodone prolonged release) a night.

If I take any less than that I get involuntary leg spasms, shivers, hot and cold spells, its horrible. Add to that I get nervous and very restless as the day wears on. Oh and I have no appetitie so I am losing weight quite rapidly.

I phoned my GP today (as was given no advice on how to come off it) and was told it was too difficult to discuss over the phone and that I  should come in to the surgery - to continue as normal til then - I cant see anyone til Monday morning and I feel like a recovering addict at the moment - which is truly horrible!

Just thought I'd share my moans with you.

Awww hugs hun

It seems they are keen to put us on these drugs at a high dose but can't support us when we don't want to be on them any longer.

Hope you get the help you need soon hun.

So do I - DH (very helpfully) wanted to throw it all away and let me go cold turkey! When I explained he would literally get kicked to death in the night he gave up on that idea!

Thankfully doc assures me he can get me sorted but will take time to go through it all.

Edit: Am sat here shaking and nearly crying - the withdrawal symptoms are getting worse everyday and earlier too. I get really nervous and shakey, have a 'something bads going to happen' feeling, feel restless but unable to focus on doing anything.

I cant cope today - I am going to take what I need until Monday and then speak to the GP - I cant carry on feeling like this, I dont feel like me anymore.

yeah Madz, stay on it til Monday, then the doc will give you a plan to decrease it properly hunny.  I once forgot to take my morning meds before I went to work one day and boy did I know about it!!

The doc is very unwilling, lets say, to up my morphine, Im trying so hard to manage on 10mg continuous slow release morphine sulphate - but it is very very hard.

Please let us know how you get on hunny, and I hope you dont get too distressed with the withdrawal xxxxxx

lol nikki hun, my doc is almost pleading me to go proper morphine full time as she hates seeing me in pain and plodding along but the side effects of orapmorph (headaches etc) are bad enough as it is.

Not to add to the fact that i neeed to be compus mentus thing for my kids and driving why is it so hard to find a decent balance between meds and the side effects!

Good luck madz XXX cuppa afters??

Coming off it is no fun chica.  Your body craves it, hence the horribleness you are going through.  It takes TIME to come off it chica, so dont do it cos you feel like it, let the doc do his biz and bring you off slowly.

It wont take away the feelings as no matter how gradual you come off it, its still going to be there..but your body will adjust...just takes TIME.

So go get a brew.  You might not want to eat...but EAT anyway
