Our Consultant rang us today.  I was at work so had to ring him back.  He told us he wanted to see us tomorrow afternoon as he had some test results to tell us.  He asked if I wanted to know them now so I said yes.  Our baby had an acute form of Downs Syndrome.  Our chance of this happening again is 1 in 50 to 100 so not great odds but certainly not bad either.  We are going tomorrow to discuss what happens next and get any questions we might have answered.  I presume I will be offered an amnio next time if I want it as the chance of having a Downs Syndrome baby is higher than the chance of mc'ing due to an amnio.

It's good that you're getting some answers, and great you are getting to see the consultant tomorrow.  Hope you have your list of questions ready for him!  Let us know how you get on-

Im glad your finally getting some answers - I would think you would be offered an amnio in the future due to the circumstances - that was good of the consultant to tell you over the phone  - sometimes they wont say anything at all! let us know how you get on - hope it all goes ok and you are both alright :)

Awww Sam i'm glad the tests have given a few answers.... not that it helps much but hopefully it'll shine a little light, i'm glad he gave you the results over the phone. Good luck for today when you meet the consultant.

What a good consultant. I am so sorry that you're in a position to get that news, but the fact that you've got some answers must be nicer than not knowing.

Hello, thank you all for your good wishes.  We didn't find out an awful lot more to be honest than what we were told on the phone yesterday.  He has prescribed me a higher dose of Folic Acid to take as I have UC but to be honest I have been on Folic Acid now since trying for Ols so I highly doubt i have low Folic Acid.  He said when I fall pregnant again they will look after us very well and we will be able to have immediate access to him and his team so no waiting for appointments just phone them up and go and see them.

Not sure how I am feeling about it all.  Of course we still don't really know what our other babies died from as they don't do any tests until after your 3rd mc which I understand but the frustrating thing is when you get to your 3rd mc you only really get answers about the 3rd and not the 1st or 2nd.  He said that our first mc was probably just one of those things, our 2nd because you have a higher risk of mc'ing multiples and now Fin as she had Downs.

So what that means for the future is we have about a 1 - 100 chance of having another baby with Downs.  No other real statistics than that.

He did take lots of blood just to rule out any blood clotting problems I could have although he doesn't think it will be a problem, the tests take a long time to come back and he will write to me with results.

The immediate access is fantastic hunny, although its no consellation, you do have the support there for if and when you become pregnant again.

I can imagine that you aren't feeling anything at this particular time, most of the stuff you had a feeling about anyway, just confirmed.

You are a brilliant, fantastic woman and mother.  You all are doing fab and we all love you very much xxxxx
