Hi all, as the title suggests today I received from my community occupational therapy department some living aids to help me get though the 33wks wait to be assessed properly for shower/bath accessories and grab rails. (Bear in mind I was referred in Jan 08!)

I had a sofa raised, which entailed metal cross frame being screwed to the base of the sofa and then unscrewed to the desired height.

I also got a perching stool which I can use to get dressed off, do dishes or sit on in the bathroom till the formal assessment, and a Zimmer frame style trolley so I can carry things but have support.

The toilet now looks scary and it pulls at my heart strings to see it as I never expected to have these aids in my household till I was 60/70yrs of age, if not later.

I was also ordered a bed lever but due to my bed being slatted it doesn’t fit within my slat dimensions….so they had to take it back but are ordering me a different one now they’ve seen my bed.

Pointless post really just wanted to share my new fangled toys!

Aww hun, i have some aids too i have a kettle tipper, some chunky cutlery with non slip handles, a jar opener, a bed grab rail and a bath seat! I hated the idea at first being so young, but now i wouldn't change them for anything , they have been a godsend! Enjoy them! xxx

I've got to book a time and day to go to the disablity living centre to have a look at aids that will help in the kitchen etc.... haven't had a chance yet with all the appointments etc yet.

I'm hoping they will issue me some when it comes to having my proper assessment.

Hope they really help Tsena....and that the bed lever arrives quickly.

The zimmer frame style trolley looks great - could have done with one of those when I was pg with Ruthie, rather than just a bog-standard zimmer frame!!

xxx

hmmm well i was referred to occupational therapy in jan 08, and had to chase them up and finally got these on order but that took 4weeks! Now i'm waiting 33wks to see them for a proper assessment.

I'm also waiting for the disability living centre close by to call me back and up in on their list to go in and see what aids they have to help me in the kitchen and dressing department.

It's really hard to imagine needing these under the age of 30.
