As term ends on Wednesday I picked up a bottle of wine, bar of Galaxy choc and an anti stress face mask each for Harrison's teacher and the TA, which i have put into a gift bag with 'Harry free zone, no ear plugs required' - Teacher revival kit', just as a quirky thank you for the 'extra' effort they put in with harry this year as he has been exceptionally difficult. Think it only cost about £8-9 ish each

When i spoke to my friend in the school yard earlier on she asked if i wanted to club into a kitty to get the teacher an expensive gift think it was some posh gift set from selfridges or where ever, they were asking for between £10 - 20 EACH when i told her i got the teacher and ta a bottle each, she sort of pulled her face as if to say 'huh tat', then said the magority of the mums had clubbed in and if i didnt want to then fine, whatever!!

Well, I know that the teachers get loads of wine, chocs and cheap gift sets and I know that half the time it goes in the charity shop, (my sis is a TA and has had her fair share), BUT she has always gratfully accepted everything and thanked everyone as they dont expect it.

I dont doubt that the gift the other mums got would be lovely but i dont sdee why i should be expected to club into something if i dont want to, afterall not everyone gets the teacher a gift anyway.

Does anyone else get end of term teacher gifts?

Rin I wouldnt worry about this other mums reaction, you had already bought something and they should respect that. It sounds lovely!

I bought Joshua's school teacher a box of chocolates for her and the LSA's to share with a car hand done by Joshua. For each of his cylch teachers (afternoon section) I bought a box of chocolates each, and a card. Thats only because Joshua will have the same teacher next year, but he wont ever be going back to the cylch and he will miss them. although he'll see 2 of them in school, he'll never be taught by them again so I thought I'd get them something each.

I used to get my teachers an end of term a small gift, and sometimes they'd return a small gift back to all the children, like a pencil, rubber and a small chocolate (expensive when there's 30 odd in the class.)

I also got my nursery staff a present of chocs, and brought the kids a cool book, read it and then told them I'd leave it on the interest table for them to look at again, they were amazed!  Was less than a fiver!!

The only time I pitched in for an expensive gift was when me and 3 friends at college put a £10 each in and got my lecturer who had helped us a lot a marks and spencers gift voucher and a bunch of flowers.  No-body else had even bothered to get her anything!!

It's always nice to show a wee bit of thanks to someone that helped you / your kiddies.

Well it was different this time for my kids, the older 2 had the same teacher this year as they had last year... so we brought her a gift then (plus i dont like her one bit) and the same with Shannon so they all got their gifts before the last summer holidays.
But it was Harry's last day at nursery last Thursday, so i got the 2 teachers chocolates, a bunch of flowers each and a card for everyone that worked there.
Pretty usual pressies i know, but there were ladies that didnt give them anything as their lo's were staying another year.
But the teachers were all blubbing along with the mother's bless them. 

I always think its nice to show your appreciation personally and by 'clubbing up' your names simply, could have only be written on the card!!

Tasja made a nice thank you card for her teacher, but I usually save the pressie thing for christmas..but thats just me.

I know a lot of the mums go way OTT on getting pressies for the teachers, overheard one of them say, well...ive brought this, that way I know my child gets the attention they need in class...me thinking WTF...hello...they all get the same since when do buying pressies have to do with teaching time..mind you, with the mind set of some of the mums it doesnt surprise me at times
