I was a little early collecting jess from school today so stood outside the classroom, aftyer standing their for a few minutes I realised the noise level was much louder than normal so i stuck my head around the door to find the yr 2 class in a mixed array of getting dressed from pe i also noticed that there was no teacher in the class so i entered the room and started to get jess dressed (who was stood ion her tights with no other clothes on crying because she had banged her head). I had been there a few minutes when i noticed a member of staff was pssed so i got her attention and asked where the teacher was. Intially i was looked at like i was an alien then she looked around the class and said "oh i don't know" she then went off leaving me in the classroom alone with a class of 6-7 yr olds. I know i work with kids but they don't and after all this teacher did not know me from adam. A few minutes later one fo the people who had been taking a pe class (Jess school have sports coaches taking pe) stood outside the classroom door but did not enter it or take any control, in fact i had to stop 2 from fightening. Another few minutes went past before another member of staff arrived who did not know me or the kids or to that matter who any of the kids belonged to, sjhe did not know where homework, spelling or reading books were. this tells me she was not meant to have bene i there which leaves me asking where the hell their real teacher was and If i had not arrived early how long would the kds have been there without a teacher.
I am very concered about this and tried to speak to the head but she was in a meeting. I have had a phone call from her but missed it.
I know where i will be standing @ 8.50am on monday morning.

Oh my goodness this is not good! Does make you wonder, hun i would put it in writing or at least bullet points so that you don't miss anything out.
It's worrying that you could just walking to the class room in the first place etc without any attention etc but the rest of it certainly makes you think.

That is absolutely shocking. For a start nobody should be allowed to wander into the school, even parents- do they not have a security system? And the children should not have been left unattended, unless it was an absolute emergency and even then another adult should have been called into the room as soon as possible. Sine the tragedy in Scotland when 12 children and their teacher were killed in the 90's schools had to go through their safety and security procedures with a fine tooth comb. When you speak to the head teacher ask to see the school's security policy and scare her by saying that you'll take the matter up with the Local Authority. There's no excuse for what happened at all.

I deffinately agree with Lynie! No parents are allowed to enter my kids school unless its through the main entrance doors, and even then there's security coded doors between each classroom so you have to be escorted. I thought most classes have a teacher and at least one teaching assistant.. so there should always be somebody with the children at all times, and even more worrying as they were all getting changed from doing P.E.
I dont think that is acceptable at all, so speak to the head to complain and for a decent explanation, and lets hope something like this doesn't happen again. Good luck with your complaint, you are right to speak up about this after all, its the childrens safety that is their number one priority! x-x-x

All I could think of was Dublane when reading your post. Definately see the head. If any parent told me they could walk straight into my daughters school I would be speaking to the head and the education authority. You have to trust your school to look after your child, you are putting your faith in them.
That would really distress me. What could possibly have happened that a) you could walk straight into your daughters classroom and b) that there was no adult supervising.
I don't mean to upset you further but I just can't believe that after Dunblane lessons still have not been learnt.

I agree with everyone else. I knew someone who lived in Dumblane and went to the school the tragedy happened at. Its terrible that lessons havent been learnt!
I agree, go and see your head, ask to see the security policy, make it clear you will take this further! It just isnt on!

Flipping heck thats terrible.
At tasjas school all the door are shut and can only be opened from the inside..the only way in is through the main doors and even then you have to be buzzzzed in by the secretary. You cant go down to the classrooms to get your monster..they secretary phones down to the classroom and your monster meets you in reception.
I would definitely kick a few bums on monday morning..

OMG that's appalling The security at the school sounds hopeless, do they not have the doors locked etc? Our school has all the doors locked and the security gates closed unless it's coming in/going home time and even then, they are only all unlocked when a member of staff is there to supervise. Also; am I right in assuming the kids were a mixed sex group? Our school has had separate boy/girl changing rooms right from Upper Foundation onwards so I've always assumed other schools were the same. Surely by that age, the kids should be entitled to a little privacy? I think you're definitely right to go and complain. Let us know what they have to say for themselves
