Every day lately my little boy just seems to be preparing himself for more indepenence. He's shot up in height, and matured in himself. He's coming on in leaps and bounds acedemically. Just in the car on the way to my parents we were adding up and taking away. Then yesterday we took the stabilisers off his bike, at his request. There is a little boy of similar age across the road whom he was playing with yesterday, and he asked if he could play with him today. I was just about to take him over to ask, when he told me he wasnt a baby anymore. He said he can knock on the door himself for him, and off he toddled. I was watching and he sent me in (so I spied from the window lol). He's now riding up and down perfectly by himself, and playing with his friend. I love seeing him come into his own, but I really miss having my baby.

Awww embrace his wanting to be independent, mate, it's good for him.
I don't know if it's part of being a single parent family but I've found that Max has grown up massively in the past year. I watch him with his little friends and he seems like an old head on young shoulders compared to some. Sometimes I feel sad for those lost 'baby' years, but then this is who he is and I would never change it.
He's fantastic with his little brother as well, always looking out for him which helps me out tremendously. Again, as a single mum I don't have the time or help as I would with a partner so I guess alot of responsibility whether right or wrong is put on my eldest son at an early age. Max copes very well with responsibility and tends to make good choices. He often asks me if he has made a good decision or not and invariably he has!
It's hard watching them grow up, but just remember they're not growing apart from us just developing a sense of who they are. I find comfort in that, anyway.
