Joshua has been learning to read, and was becoming familiar with a few key words. Well he's been reading a few words off a few pages then asking me to finish his story. Tonight he sat and read all the book, all 16 pages, all by himself. There were some words he couldn't do, but he didnt just sit and wait for me to fill the blanks, he tried them and gave it a good go. He's even remembering the sounds for oo and ee and ea, and instead of reading them as e and e or o and o, he's reading them as a coupled sound! (cooling is one of the words, now reading it as c oo l i n g, and therefore getting the word right woohoo)

I am a mega proud mummy, and he so knew it as he marched off to bed with a very proud smile upon his face!

We read, Fox on a box. Its part of a collection of Usbourne phonics books. He wants to read Shark in a park tonight! Bless him!

I was looking at that set on thebookpeople.com yesterday thinking of getting them for my ds, I guess you and Joshua enjoy them so think i might have to invest in them, my son isnt keen on reading I will try anything to try and get him to enjoy it, he is a typical lazy boy and prefers to be read too! where did you get your set from? how much did you pay?

It was I think £10 for the set (could have been £8). I bought the books from the school. A company comes in and leaves a collection of books and sometimes craft items, a price list and then picks up the money a week later, leaving the order as well. Its really good, Ive had some superb bargins from them, the books are gorgeous and never over priced. Joshua loves this collection because they are lift the flap books, and really well illustrated. They are good for learning to read because they are very reapative and have similar sounding words all the way through, uses high frequency words, and has a couple of challenging words.

Well done Joshua! I can't wait for mine to be able to read, hopefully Fred will move on from the 1 book he lets me read to him!
