I know I was like this, so is my brother now (age 16)

The one thing I didnt do was leave food around, mainly because i wasnt supposed to have it in my room. You could try telling her she isnt allowed to eat in her room until its tidy.

My mum went in one day and tidyed it all, she found fags, lighters, condoms, it was soooo embarrassing, I learnt my lesson though.

My dad used to tell me he was going to put it all in black bags and throw it out.

To be honest I dont think there is a huge amount you can do though. Sorry!

Glad I'm not the only one with dd like that... Like your dh said tell her you will throw it away then hide it.. if she throws a strop let her.. when she has calmed down bring out the bag and tell her next time you will stick to your word..see what happends.. Good luck.

My Dad put all my stuff in a bin bag when I was 16, so I went around the house and put everything of his in a bin bag, touche!!

Having a 16yr old and a 12yr old myself I know how frustrating it is.  My tactics are:  No food near the pc, I don't trust them not to spill stuff.  Bedroom is their own mess as long as the door can be shut I don't go in.  If they run out of clean clothes to wear that's their own fault.  To be fare I have one tidy one and one untidy one.  Both of them do blitz their room every now and then and make it tidy.  If they do anything to do with tidying up I always thank them a lot.  In our house our bedrooms are our personal space, they don't go in my room, I don't go in theirs.

Boys are just as bad as girls! I have threatened to go in with the binliners often, but have only done so a couple of times, once thye lose their best item once is all it really took with tw  of them! lol

My new one every year is we need tomake room for Christmas!  They don't clear out, they don't get christmas presents! Both the boys have done their rooms, and dd hasn't got any more space! so she can't have any, I have said I will go through her room next week!  I am dreading it!

From personal experience ie wen i was 16 i think the best advise 2 follow is Sams

Teenagers prefer 2 do the opposite of wot their parents ask so if u dont mention the mess (stop reminding her about putting clothes in the washing etc) she'll soon realise that the only way she can get on in life is 2 tidy up after herself also there will come a time wen she'll want 2 bring a friend home then she'll remember the mess & regret it

If the food bothers u, go in every few days & remove anything that might rot but as for packaging just leave it for her 2 sort, close the door & pretend the room just doesnt exist

i have to agree with mumsam....

leave all the mess,if she thinks you will tidy up after her theres no chance she will do it....let her have a smelly dirty room and no clothes to wear...she will soon get the message......she'l wonder whats going on when you stop asking her to do it....hehe...
