My brothers girlfriend leant me Goodbye Dearest Holly, the book written in memory of Holly Wells who was killed in Soham by Ian Huntley in August 2002, by her father - Kevin Wells.
I was in two minds whether to read it as I knew it would be upsetting but I'm glad I did. I have read about 3/4 of it now - in 2 nights - and am hooked. Yes I have cried but its been interesting to read about the police procedures and the trial.
Its a wonderfully written book I would recommend but be prepared to be moved.

I would be interested in reading this, especially as I work in Criminal Justice. It does make me wonder if anything can be learned from this tragedy though.

From reading the book the main lessons seem to be a) the police handling of the parents (not being kept in the loop and having to discover things from the press due to being possible 'witnesses' b) proper checks into background of those working with children. Because nothing had been proved and he used a false name nothing showed up on huntleys record when he applied to work at the school, despite being accused many times (9 or 10 at least) of rape or sleeping with underage girls.
